Enzyme Washing

Enzyme washing uses controlled biological agents to soften fabric, reduce harsh surface fuzz, and improve how a garment feels on skin from the first wear.

WHAT ENZYME WASHING DOES

Enzymes target tiny fibres and loose surface fuzz on the fabric. Instead of using heavy stone washing or aggressive chemicals, the wash works at a microscopic level and trims down roughness in a more controlled way.

The result is a smoother hand-feel, less scratchiness, and a fabric that feels worn-in without looking damaged.

HOW WE USE IT AT SVASTI

  • Applied on select cotton and cotton-blend fabrics where we want a softer surface.
  • Calibrated with the mill so the fabric doesn’t get thinned out or weakened.
  • Paired with controlled drying to keep shrinkage within expected limits.
  • Checked against pilling and colour performance, not softness alone.

WHAT YOU'LL NOTICE IN REAL USE

Fabric feels less “boardy” on first wear, especially around the neck, underarms, and seams. The surface feels smoother in hand while still holding structure instead of collapsing like a thin lounge tee.

Does enzyme washing damage the fabric?

When done aggressively, it can. Our approach is mild and tested: softness is balanced against long-term strength. If a fabric does not respond well in testing, we skip enzyme washing for that style.
